Why should I bother with a DIY Deodorant!?
This DIY deodorant recipe is simple, chemical free and all natural! Store-bought deodorants and antiperspirants have SO many toxins these days! Have you ever looked at the ingredients in your chosen brand!? It is appalling what companies are putting in their products and that the FDA is allowing it to happen! Don’t believe me? Take a look for yourself! I guarantee you will see a bunch of words you can’t pronounce and various fake fragrances depending on the scent you prefer.
Unfortunately, I started using antiperspirant deodorant in middle school and only stopped a few years ago! I was rubbing this toxic substance under my arms DAILY (or even multiple times a day if I had gym or a sports practice!) for around 12 years! No one really knew or cared if it had chemicals in it as long as you didn’t smell or actually sweat. God forbid you went to put a book on the top shelf of your locker and someone saw your “pit stains”!
A few years ago I started making my own DIY deodorant after I realized how many toxins can be in store-bought brands and am using the same recipe today! It is simple, yet so effective! This recipe allows you to sweat, which your body needs to do in order to get rid of toxins! Even though you sweat a little, you wont stink! The active ingredients in this recipe take away odor (baking soda), soak up moisture (arrowroot powder), and get rid of bacteria (tea tree oil), which is what causes the “B.O.” in the first place! The coconut oil is simply there to bind the two powders since it wouldn’t really be effective to just toss some powder at your dry arm pits and hope something sticks!
It MAY take a few days for your body to adjust to being allowed to sweat, but after those first few days I guarantee you will be hooked! When I say this I mean that your body may sweat a lot in the first few days because it wants to rid all the toxins while it can, but once your body realizes you aren’t going to put those nasty chemicals back on to block the sweat, your body will regulate itself and the excessive sweating will cease! This may not happen to you, but I am just putting it out there in case because I have heard many people say this to me and I tell them to just stick it out a couple of days. So make a batch on a Friday night, let your body adjust over the weekend, and you will be smelling great by Monday!
I love this deodorant because it’s easy to make, cheap, and works great! If you are not a big fan of lavender, or are making it for a guy, you may want to swap it out for another one of your favorite Young Living essential oils, but definitely be sure to add the tea tree! It is a major component of the deodorant and one of the main reasons why it works so well! Give this recipe a try and let me know your thoughts!
