Why I decided to make Luscious Locks Leave-in Conditioner
Through Pinterest I have read a TON of recipes for leave-in conditioners and other hair health DIYs! I decided to take some aspects of various recipes that I felt would work best and give it a shot! This led to the Luscious Locks Leave-in Conditioner recipe! PLUS, it is free of harsh chemicals and fake fragrances that other leave-in conditioners have!
I recently decided that I was going to get rid of all hair/beauty products loaded with chemicals. This decision came shortly after I discovered the FREE app “Think Dirty”. (If you haven’t heard of it, I HIGHLY recommend downloading it!) Warning: You may not like what you see!
This app allows you to scan the bar code of health/beauty products or type in the name and immediately see a list of ingredients. If applicable, these ingredients are categorized into “carcinogenicity”, “developmental and reproductive toxicity”, and “allergies and immunotoxicities”. Based on the ingredients and their ratings, the product is then rated on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most detrimental to your health. When I saw that the majority of my daily products were rated a 6 or above, I decided I needed to make a change!
After some research, I realized that replacing shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and lotion with natural, chemical-free products was not that difficult to do, but when it came to a “leave-in” conditioner it seemed like that was going to be a bit tricky, especially if I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a name brand product.
**The ONLY thing I would change about this recipe is utilizing a bigger bottle (therefore multiplying the recipe) because I have very long hair and the 2 oz bottle only lasts me about a week! Other than that, this recipe is amazing and I definitely recommend trying it out!
I plan on trying out more natural, chemical-free DIY recipes over time for other products that I am replacing in my home, so stay tuned!
